UK Paperback Book Printing

Combining durability with a polished appearance, paperback booklets are widely used throughout the educational, corporate and creative industries. Their firm covers and neatly finished square spines provide a dependable format for playbooks, visitor information, study guides, handbooks and other projects requiring professional presentation.

Our Paperback Booklet Production Process

Every booklet is produced in two stages. The inner pages are printed and collated first, while the cover is printed separately on your selected stock. Once prepared, the pages are securely bonded into the cover spine, creating a strong paperback book capable of withstanding regular use.

Customise Your Paperback Booklet

A variety of options are available to suit different project requirements:

  • Choose from flexible formats up to A4.
  • Select from multiple materials for the internal pages and cover.
  • Add one of three premium lamination finishes to improve style and durability.
  • Order any quantity starting from a single booklet.
  • Orders of up to 500 copies are printed using advanced digital presses.
  • Larger quantities are produced through high-quality lithographic printing.
  • Lamination is recommended for covers featuring heavy ink coverage, helping protect against scuffing and ink transfer during storage or delivery.
  • Soft Touch, Matt and Gloss lamination options are available for a durable, professional result.

How to set up design files for Paperback Books

Files to Submit

Your artwork must be supplied as two separate files:

  1. Cover artwork: Provide the cover as a complete spread, including the spine. Use our spine-width calculator to establish the correct spine measurement.
  2. Internal artwork: Supply the inner content as separate pages arranged in consecutive reading order.

For a 40-page brochure, for example, you should provide:

  • A 36-page PDF containing the internal pages
  • A two-page cover PDF, with the outside cover spread on page 1 and the inside cover spread on page 2

Artwork Requirements

  • Total pages: The booklet’s page count must be divisible by two.
  • Safe area: Position all text, page numbers and images at least 10 mm inside every edge.
  • Non-printable spine area: Keep the spine section on the inside cover clear to allow the glue to bond effectively. This blank area must include the full spine and extend 6 mm on each side of the fold.
  • Bleed: Include 3 mm of bleed around all sides.
  • Colour format: Submit the finished artwork as a CMYK PDF.
  • Fonts: Ensure every font is outlined or embedded.
  • Image quality: All artwork must have a resolution of 300 dpi.

Recommended Cover Lamination

Lamination is recommended to protect the cover pages. During binding, a clamp is used while the spine is glued to the inner pages. This may create scuffing or printer marks near the spine and across other heavily inked areas of the cover.

If you choose not to laminate the cover, limit the graphics and background colours that continue into the inner and outer spine sections.
