Paperback Book Printing in the UK
Paperback booklets provide a strong, professional format suitable for educational, business and creative applications. Their sturdy covers and neatly finished square spines make them an excellent choice for study guides, handbooks, playbooks, visitor information and other projects that require a dependable, high-quality presentation.
How Paperback Booklets Are Produced
Production is completed through a carefully controlled two-stage process. The internal pages are printed and arranged in the correct order, while the cover is prepared separately using your selected material. The pages are then firmly glued into the cover’s spine, creating a durable book designed to withstand frequent use over time.
Customisation Options
Tailor your paperback booklet to meet the specific requirements of your project:
- Select from flexible sizes up to A4.
- Choose from multiple materials for the internal pages and cover.
- Add one of three premium lamination finishes for extra durability and visual appeal.
- Place an order starting from just one booklet.
- Quantities of up to 500 are produced using advanced digital presses.
- Larger print runs are completed using high-quality lithographic printing.
- Lamination is recommended for covers with heavy ink coverage to reduce scuffing and prevent ink transfer during transportation or storage.
- Choose from Soft Touch, Matt or Gloss lamination for a durable, professional finish.

Preparing Your Paperback Book Artwork
Submit Two Separate Files
Please provide the cover and internal pages as two individual files:
- Cover file: Supply the complete cover as a spread that includes the spine. Use our spine-width calculator to determine the correct measurement.
- Internal-pages file: Submit every inner page separately and arrange them in consecutive reading order.
For example, artwork for a 40-page brochure should include:
- One 36-page PDF containing the internal pages
- One two-page cover PDF, with the outside cover spread on page 1 and the inside cover spread on page 2
File Requirements
- Page count: The total number of booklet pages must be divisible by two.
- Safe zone: Keep all text, page numbers and images at least 10 mm away from every edge.
- Non-printable area: Leave the spine section of the inside cover blank for effective glue adhesion. This area must include the spine and extend 6 mm beyond both sides of the fold.
- Bleed: Apply a 3 mm bleed on all sides.
- Colour mode: Supply the artwork as a CMYK PDF.
- Fonts: Outline or embed every font used in the design.
- Resolution: Prepare all artwork at 300 dpi.
Cover Lamination Recommendation
Adding lamination to the cover pages is recommended for additional protection. During production, a clamp holds the book while the spine is glued to the internal pages. This process may leave scuffs or printer marks around the spine and in other areas with heavy ink coverage.
If you do not want lamination, minimise graphics and background colours that extend across the inner and outer spine areas.
